President's Corner
By Dan Jones |
Greetings Magic Club Members and Friends. Our October meeting is coming up on Wednesday the 12th at the Plymouth Community Arts Council. We will spend a majority of the meeting rehearsing and preparing for our magic show which is occuring on October 28th.
Our V.P. Sean Naes is overseeing all aspects of the show. There are many ways to help out at this event and we will need all hands on deck to make it a success. If you haven't yet spoken to Sean directly, please do so.
The Ann Arbor Magic Club's Magic flea market was held on Sunday, Sept. 25th and was a very successful fund raiser for the club. We had 8 tables rented and approximately 35 guests that attended.
- I would like to thank out Treasurer Rob Krozal for working the entry door.
- Thanks also to Jaclyn Clark & Frank Machniak for donating drinks and snacks and working the concession stand.
- A shout out to Mike Bogdas and my friend John Reed for manning the two tables of magic whose profits went to the club.
- Thanks to Jim & Michelle Parks from Hippity Hop Rabbit magic shop for renting two tables.
- And finally thanks to Don Oesterwind for allowing us access to meet at Safe Step corporate offices.
We held an auction at the flea market and raised more money for the club as Jim Folkl, Kevin Peshick and Phil Mann donate their items to the club.
We hope to see you all on the 12th. Here are some photos from the Flea Market.

The Broken Wand
By Karl Rabe |
A long time member of the AAMC, Dr. Donald Mitchell Jr. passed away on Friday, Sept. 23rd at the age of 94.
His great joy and natural talent was entertaining friends and family with music and magic. He was happiest surrounded by a crowd doing card tricks with a deft hand and a famous quick dry wit. He was always the consummate performer.
Don had been a life-long fixture of the downriver community and enjoyed a long and successful career as an educator and administrator in Allen Park and Woodhaven Schools. He was also a long-standing member of the Kiwanis club. In his spare time, he could be found enjoying his self-proclaimed “greatest vice”, golf.

By Karl Rabe |
Thank you Mike Bodgas for taking notes during the meeting in Karl's absence.
President Dan Jones kicked us off with self introductions and question of the month, "What is your 3rd favorite thing about magic".
Then it was a few quick business updates. Dan Jones reminded us that elections will be coming up before we know it. Anyone wishing to run for a Board position should reach out to Dan Jones directly.
Then it was on to member performances.
- Phil Mann performed a Floating Zombie Head routine, a levitating skull, a ghost trick and a shattering glass routine.
- Mike Bodgas performed a comedy card prediction. A prediction was shown to the audience and sealed in an envelope. A spectator was selected and appeared to select the prediction. The spectators card was revealed to be different but miraculously matched the prediction.
- John Russell performed a trick from "Self-working Card Tricks" by Karl Fulves. This book is readily available on the used market.
- Johnny New York performed a unique variation on Caleb Wiles 26! which Johnny calls 26 Factorial Cubed (26!^3).
- Dalton Cahill wrapped up with a Book Prediction.
Then Sean Naes went through a bill switch tutorial with the club.
